A first in Turkey and Izmir, a site-specific puppet show will be staged for the first time in Izmir in the program of our festival. ‘Angels of the Chimney’ to be staged in Izmir’s Historical Town Coal Gas Factory, one of the most important historical sites of İzmir, in cooperation with  Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, D.E.U. Fine Arts Faculty, Stage Arts Department and İzmir International Puppet Days, is a site-specific show, an art concept that started in 1960’s, with the idea of taking modern art out of exhibition halls, museums and galleries and performing it in different environments in an -inseparable from the site- approach. The directors of the show, the American theatre artist Sarah Brown and Adam Yakin from Israel, world-wide famous with his site-specific performances that he staged all over the world and the coordinator of the show, Isınsu Ersan are getting ready to make this play one of the most unforgettable shows in İzmir art history with the giant puppets, unique staging techniques and the story referring touching history of the site.

Sarah Brown is a professor of performance at the University of Memphis in the U.S.A. as well as an actor, director, solo show performer and playwright whose shows and plays have been performed internationally.

Adam Yakin is an international site-specific show artist, physical theatre and object theatre performer, puppet maker, director and head of carnival arts at Holon-Tel Aviv’s School of Puppetry in Israel.
