Being one of the most famous sagas of the world and one of the most important sagas of India, Ramayana tells the story of Prince Rama, a reincarnation of one of the three greatest Indian gods, Vishnu. In this performance which has its story from this saga, King Maharisi Mata Api, the father of Princess Sita whom many suitors desire, promises to marry his daughter to the one who can draw Goddess Shiva’s bow. Including princes, many men come to try their luck but every attempt results in a failure. Among those men, Rawana and Prince Kurang Satu and 40 others have endeavored in this competition. Everyone, even Rawana has failed the competition. However, Sri Rama succeeds the test by putting his arrow through 40 tar trees. After Sri Rama’s victory, Maharisi Mata Api has chosen him to tie the knot with his daughter, Sita Dewi. Their matrimony has stirred up Rawana’s fury, grief and jealousy. Rawana’s obsession towards the beautiful Sita Dewi leads him into making plans to the abduct Sita Dewi to his state, Langkapuri. Will Sri Rama succeed in rescuing his beloved wife from Rawana? The ending of this tragic and epic love story will be shown at the Kelantanase Shadow Puppet performance in “The Story of Abduction of Sita Dewi”.
